No, the foundation cannot accept applications from organizations or fiscal sponsors whose tax-exempt status is pending. Organizations applying for a grant must have received an IRS determination letter.

No, individual members of the Board of Directors initiate discretionary awards. We do not accept unsolicited proposals for discretionary awards. Discretionary awards are subject to approval by the Board and are not renewable.

Thank you for asking! We are no longer able to receive any mail as our office is now fully remote. We love to receive your newsletters and e-mail blasts and ask that you send them to us via e-mail at info@lilynyc.org. All acknowledgement letters should be submitted online via the grant portal.

If a deadline falls on a weekend, the deadline is extended to the following business day at 5pm. You can always find the most up-to-date information on a current grant cycle’s deadline on the home page of the foundation’s grant portal.

The foundation requires organizations receiving multi-year grants to submit an interim report.
Organizations receiving one-time grants are not required to submit a report. If you are a past grantee applying for renewed support, you may include a brief description of how the last grant was helpful to the organization in your proposal.
No final reports are required.

Yes.
At the end of 2017, we made changes to our guidelines by eliminating the education category. Organizations can still apply for education programs under one of the other categories (human services, arts or environmental) based on the organization’s mission and program content.

The environmental grant cycle used to be called Environment/Preservation cycle.
The cycle is open to organizations whose mission and programs relate to the preservation of New York City’s environment and history. We welcome your application for programs related to parks and gardens, waterways, environmental education, advocacy, and preservation.
