Instructions for Applying

Grant applications are only accepted online. No supplementary paper materials are accepted. Organizations may apply only once a year, and only one category per organization. Before applying for one of our general grants in art, human services, environmental, please make sure you meet ALL of our eligibility requirements.


step 1. log in or register

Enter Applicant and Organization Contact information including a current mailing address and telephone number.

All applications must include:

  • Executive Director’s name, mailing address, telephone and email
  • Organization’s mailing address, telephone and website
  • Name and title of person completing the application, telephone and email

For grant writers and consultants — please include the Executive Director’s information in the Organization’s Contact section.

If your organization has previously applied online — please call us at 212.737.9533 if you have questions about your organization’s account or if your organization has recently moved. We must have current contact information for all applicants and organizations.

Step 2. Click “Apply”

Step 3. Select Winter, Spring, Fall, or discretionary award (nomination only) or Grant Application

Grant categories have individual seasonal cycles and application deadlines that occur once per year: the Spring Cycle for Environmental, the Fall Cycle for the Arts, and the Winter Cycle for Human Services. The online application is available one month prior to each deadline. Please note that if a deadline falls on a weekend or a holiday, the deadline is extended to the following Monday or Tuesday at 5pm.

Discretionary awards are by nomination only and have no deadline or cycle. Members of the Board of Directors initiate/nominate potential awardees. The discretionary award application is open throughout the year. If your organization has been nominated for a discretionary award, please call us at 212.737.9533. We do not accept unsolicited proposals for discretionary awards.

Step 4. Answer Questions and Upload PDF documents

For your reference, we have made available sample applications and budgets for Foundation Grants. Organizations may use these samples to make ready the materials needed to complete this step.

Step 5. click “Save a draft”

Please take this time to save and review your application before submitting.

Step 6. Click “Submit Your Application”

Once you have submitted your application, we will review it in the coming months and contact you.
